I have chatted with various people over the years and I noticed patterns in terms of similar obstacles to overcome in developing a residual income in a home based business. Previously, a group of us had connected on line at a forum called Our Network Home. It has not existed for a few years now and too bad as it was a great place to invest a few minutes each day, learn and grow, read some posts and comment back. However, for some of us that have been around the forum for a while, we had a love/dislike relationship with it as some would question the direction the forum was taking and why do we need all this personal growth stuff. For example, at times I would grow impatient and I just wanted my coach to cut to the chase and tell me how to build a home based business. Why would anybody dislike coming to a forum and reading material that helped us ask ourselves questions about leadership, relationships, partnerships etc? The product testimonies were great and so were the celebrations of success of building a residual income in a home based business. Sometimes we shared bad news like in our families. What was it that pushed those buttons during those periods? For years I read numerous self-help materials. I thought I understood the theory. However, I truly didn’t think I needed it. I knew better. In fact I can remember many times thinking I could have delivered the material more effectively myself. I had a lot to learn back then and still do. Everyday is a journey, not a destination in building my home based business. I didn’t want to hear about all the personal growth I needed to do as I was just focused on getting the job done of creating a residual income in a home based business. I believe everybody can relate. Just show me how and get out of my way. You know what though, I know many people in this world that have accumulated great wealth but the people that know them don’t respect them. I know several people like that in this very industry. I once knew a man that made 20K every month and those that got to know him really didn’t even like to be around him and certainly had no respect for him. That was at the beginning of my career and it confused me as to what was really important and why for building a home based business. He had what I wanted, success, but in reality he was quite poor. A team needs everybody, new and old, successful and not yet successful. It doesn’t matter that I or others didn’t have a $10,000 a month residual income in a home based business. Everyone is inter-dependent upon each other. Everybody must learn this important lesson and will one way or the other. We ALL need each other! Leaders can be well remunerated in ABC Company, however, who still want to become leaders. This is where our self-image can hit a wall and you know it. Some folks cannot yet see themselves as that leader on stage. This takes time for some people. Others want it so bad and are willing to work for it. But, are you willing to invest the time and dedication to be one? Real leaders, those that are happy and successful at creating a healthy residual income in their home based business, have earned many people’s respect. That’s the Circle of Influence deal we are all working on. It really hurts to work through all those names and get rejected doesn’t it? Let’s ask ourselves a question shall we? How long does it take us to give our own respect to someone? 1 hour, 3 hours, 10? What is it that makes us respect another person? Is it really just a question of how much they earn? Real leadership is given, never taken and one achieves it through failing often enough to learn the lessons. Real leadership, like respect, is earned. Those that have obtained a certain measure of a residual income are not always one to be admired or respected. So what is the answer to all of this? Habits!!! Success habits come hard - don’t they? How many leads do we have to call before it becomes second nature and we are good at? How many friends and family have to turn us down until our resolve is so strong that we can exclaim Next! How many times do we have to do that self-examination of our beliefs before we change those that are not working? How long does it take us to really learn that it doesn’t hurt us to let another help us be better? Successful habits can build a long term sustainable residual income and a solid home based business. When we do the things that we don’t feel like doing, such as writing an article tonight or are afraid of doing and just do them anyhow we develop our character and leadership abilities. We invest time in people as we are in the people business, if we truly want a successful home based business. Mediocre people don’t. Leaders do. Leaders fail a whole lot on their path to earning respect and becoming successful. True leaders that deserve respect have failed so much that they have learned about humility. They have learned how to be inter-dependent on others at helping each other in their respective home based business. Ever met an arrogant leader? In reality no, because real leaders are not arrogant. They have learned how to be servants, one day at a time, by habit. During my journey for the past 10 years in this home based business industry, I have met many leaders. One man that stands out is Tom Prendergast - CEO - Veretekk. He doesn't take the easy road, but takes the path that is the right way to go, no matter how hard. What Tom shared several months ago, opened up my mind to why so many MLM people had failed because they followed a plan of duplication. Tired of the MLM hype and lies, then learn about buying customers. Home Based Business One person a day will build your residual income The Law of Averages just plain makes sense in building a home based business. Do you want to understand the road to your future? Don’t we all kind of need a clear vision of what could be? Isn’t it human nature? Everyone here in our home based business team wants/needs a secure road to run on and confidence that they can achieve their goals. It only makes sense! Let me try to share what can be to building a successful home based business. First, understand that those of you that comprehend this are kind of like pioneers, you will lead others by blazing a trail with our home based business team. That takes more courage than average to building a successful residual income. During the past 7 plus years, many businesses have been built online. Massive e-mail campaigns, auto-responders etc. We have all seen the hype etc. Those days are crashing and burning all around us. This is not what I am talking about. Imagine a meeting being held in your town with 10,000 success minded, many in network marketing, people and everyone are coming with a billboard on their back that shows their bio. Would you like to attend and meet people at that meeting? If not, hello. Now imagine the meeting has 100,000 plus, because that’s coming!! That’s exactly what you have at sites like the My Space and Facebook. Now, for whatever reasons, most people are still not accomplishing their objectives in our industry in terms of building a long term residual income with their home based business. One of the major reasons is a lack of communication and proper training. I have already seen many people here at places like My Space change companies etc. Why not? If they don’t see some success for their efforts, why wouldn’t they continue banging their head against the wall to try and build their freedom residual income? Distributors no longer have to mail newsletters and phone people everyday to ensure contact and information flow. Also, one doesn’t have to tour like a rock star to do trainings. In 1997, my good friend Cameron Howard spent 50K touring. Think about it. So how does this affect you and help you make a residual income online? Well anyone reading this is connected and plugged in. (Communication and training). You are among millions at my space and among many more millions on the internet. Most success minded people are online today, most Network Marketers too if they want to build a successful home based business. If we focus on getting on the phone with 1 quality person everyday, like Cameron and I do on a weekly basis for 50 weeks a year, we will have well over 250 new friends with a success mindset, most of whom already believe in Network marketing and want to develop a long term residual income. Ponder that for a moment. Think about the significance of 250 new friends that know and respect you. For example, my friend Cameron spoke to Kathy. She is very busy with several wonderful projects in her home based business. Kathy was “burned out” of network marketing, swearing never again - sound familiar? However, as she uses essential oils with her clients she recently joined Young Living so she could purchase quality oils for less. If Kathy was going to build a home based business it would be with YL. Now, hypothetically here, if for some reason YL didn’t live up to what Kathy was looking for or something changed in the company, doesn’t it stand to reason that Kathy would at least examine our company and home based business team. Of course she would! I’m not saying it would be the right one for her or that she would join us based upon one conversation, I’m only saying that we would be one that she would look at. Now multiply that scenario by 250. Then add another 250 as a solid residual income takes time. 500 people that I have spoken with over the phone, have seen my bio and read a few of my articles. Of those 500 people, how many will be looking to be more successful and willing to look at another opportunity? By focusing on meeting one person a day and adding value for 24 months I would have to be pretty poor at what I do to only personally recruit 25. Anybody who personally recruits 25 into our program and plugs them into our support system and team calls etc will earn a wonderful income, enough to work from home on. Anybody can build their own home based business this way, from any company. Talk to 1 quality person each day. Build your list of real friends, add value in every conversation by BEing a friend. BE a blessing and BE blessed. Every morning when you wake up, get excited about BEing a friend to at least 1 person. Pick people with whom you feel you have something in common. Wow, that sounds like the same old methods of MLM. Are there better alternatives to the all the stress of building a home based business? Home Based Business To be successful in a home based business, recruiting distributors has been the typical methods taught in MLM. There are various methods and systems out there that people utilize to build their team. The fact is nobody will create a residual income for a home based business unless they sponsor people. There are several elements of recruiting effectively that we need to master over time. It’s where we need to focus our attention if we are to develop a long term sustainable residual income in our home business. First, most of the stories of quick success in Network Marketing happened because of a strong sphere of influence. Someone with years of Network Marketing calling all of their contacts about a new opportunity is the most common and certainly the quickest way to build a home based business. Some people enter Networking with a great list. Doctors, sports stars, successful business people etc. If we do not have such credibility with a whole bunch of people, what do we do? Create one! Through diligent, patient hard work one can create a tremendous circle of friends that respect them and over time some will join you in your business. It takes time. However, we as leaders and coaches bringing someone into our home business have a responsibility to teach them correct building strategies. I personally have invested the past 8 to 10 years utilizing various methods and I know of several really powerful methods to build a large organization, which I have incorporated into my home based business. People will watch expecting you to quit and wait to see your success in building a business. It’s only human nature. It’s all about exposure. There are several ways to create a strong list. You can phone hundreds of leads day after day keeping notes and following up effectively. Side Note– if you are purchasing leads from one of those companies, stop wasting your money. There are other ways to create your own leads that are unique to you. I use a system called Veretekk. You can advertise and follow up with people. Another way is to “shake hands online” and get to know people and create an online presence via social networking. The important point is there are several powerful ways to build a team for your home based business and create a residual income, but it really does require you to get to work and team up with a mentor that can assist you in reaching your goals. You don’t have to be anything you are not, everybody has unique gifts and abilities. Just BE you! Don’t think for a minute you have to come across as Mr. or Mrs. Network Marketer who has a really successful home based business if that is not the case. This is a big mistake, “faking it until you make it”. Do that and you will attract a bunch of fakers. We all have unique life experiences to share, special gifts and ability, just BE real and over time by doing the right activities, you too can create a residual income. Do so and get exposure by sharing in a respectful way, BEing a friend. Add value in every relationship. Do so without thought of return just knowing that the goodness you put out will come back multiplied many times over. A kind word here, some compassion there, a little praise and encouragement when needed, just share your stories of life. That’s what successful people do to build large teams for their own home based business and develop a residual income. Do this enough and people will be attracted to you for who you are. The secret is to turn online relationships into telephone friendships. Always invite people to talk on the phone. Make sure your intentions are honest. We don’t look at people as a prospect, look at people as friends and BE one to them respectfully. Now keep in mind, various leaders use different methods to building a home business. On our team, we utilize several powerful strategies to build our home business, including what I mentioned above. Once you have done enough of this you will have created a list of new friends that respect you. Our objective is to have about 150 telephone friends in this manner. Do you realize how many people they could refer you to? Thousands! In one year, out of 150 friends, you can be assured that 3 or 4 will be looking for an opportunity every month. Which ones? Who knows, the only way to find out is by staying in touch and being a friend. We don’t have to beat people up with our incredible, super duper product or the greatest opportunity in the world. People aren’t stupid, if you are in home based business, they know it. Share your passion for what you are doing when you can. It is your enthusiasm for your Vision that draws people to your home business. If one does this, after the initial list has been created which can take months or a year to truly develop, the Law of Averages guarantees at least one person a month will join you in your home based business. It’s a lot of work before results start showing up. This is why most people quit and stay broke. It doesn’t matter what program you are in, if you recruit one solid person in this manner every month, one day you will have an awesome residual income. I used to follow those strategies, until I was introduced to a stress free way to build a home based business and just buy customers.
